Milwaukee Gets DNC 2020—What Could Go Wrong?

The NBA's Sterling Brown, who was tased and arrested
after a police attack stemming from a parking violation,
filed a lawsuit in 2018 against the city of Milwaukee,
the police chief and the eight officers involved in his
arrest, reported CNN. Noone was surprised by the attack.
Madison, Wisconsin—When Milwaukee Police assaulted NBA player Sterling K. Brown for a parking violation in early 2018, the Milwaukee police chief subsequently apologized for inappropriate police conduct, as though the assault were a breach of social etiquette, and not a human rights violation (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, CNN, Mal Contends).

Mayor Tom Barrett (D) (2004-present) was worse, releasing a statement reading in part: "I’m hopeful this incident will be a turning point and allow us to take those actions necessary to improve police community relations" (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). A turning point.

A group of malicious cops surround, lie to, defame, threaten and tase a man for a momentary parking violation, and Barrett talks about "police community relations."

It's Barrett. In the past year, precisely what actions have Barrett and the city of Milwaukee taken to "improve police community relations" and implement this so-desired turning point?

The Milwaukee cops converging on Brown from a total of eight police vehicles knew their job.

Cops can and will do anything, like kicking the shit out of black folks, knowing Barrett has their backs.

This link leads to Google search results with key words: Milwaukee police kick man in the head. Turning points, Tom Barrett calls these attacks, lots of turning points.

Sterling Brown subsequently filed a federal civil rights complaint. He'll win.

This long introduction is necessary because the Democratic National Convention 2020 will be sited in Milwaukee, it was announced today. "The convention is scheduled for July 13-16, 2020, with Fiserv Forum serving as the centerpiece of the event," the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

Milwaukee is the most racist, segregated city in the worst state to be black.

There will be massive demonstrations.

Contemplate the reaction from Milwaukee Police.  Barrett's platitudes have amounted to nothing.

See the problem here?

Sterling Brown, another victim of racist Milwaukee cops speaks out
for safety of community facing the threat of police protected by Milwaukee
city government, especially Mayor Tom Barrett.

Cop Problem — NBA Player Sterling Brown Files Federal Civil Rights Action Against Cops and Milwaukee

Updated - "The NBA's Sterling Brown, who was tased and arrested earlier this year after an altercation stemming from a parking violation, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the city of Milwaukee, the police chief and the eight officers involved in his arrest," reports CNN.

"Key to the suit will be one of the officers' alleged social media posts, which appear to celebrate the actions of the officers, three of whom were suspended without pay. Though an initial police report described Brown as aggressive, Police Chief Alfonso Morales has since apologized for the officers' behavior, saying they acted 'inappropriately.' Mayor Tom Barrett said, 'No citizen should be treated this way.'

Sterling Brown found out the hard way Milwaukee Police are malignant and racist.

Morales treated the cop attack like a breach of etiquette. Barrett cried crocodile tears.

Named as defendants in the action are: POLICE ALFONSO MORALES, in his Official capacity, SERGEANT SEAN A. MAHNKE, SERGEANT JEFFREY S. KRUEGER, OFFICER JOSEPH J. GRAMS, OFFICER BOJAN SAMARDZIC, OFFICER JAMES P. COLLINS, OFFICER CRISTOBAL MARTINEZ AVILA, OFFICER ERIK A. ANDRADE, and OFFICER JASON P. JENSEN.

After tasing, beating and arresting Brown for a parking ticket, the cops took to social media to ridicule and belittle Brown.
Brown in his civil rights complaint offers an indictment of the Wisconsin cop problem and systemic racism directed at citizens by racist cops.

Reads the complaint:

20. This imbalance in violence against African Americans by police officers is particularly rampant in the State of Wisconsin. Mesic et al., The Relationship Between Structural Racism and Black-White Disparities in Fatal Police Shootings at the State Level , 110, Journal of the National Medical Association, 106, 110 (2018). 21.

21. In Wisconsin, over fifteen unarmed African Americans are shot by police officers for every individual unarmed white person shot by a police officer.
In Wisconsin, racist cops thrive in the para-military goon squads because in part they enjoy the political protection of liberal mayors in Milwaukee and Madison.

Racist Milwaukee cops such as Erik A. Andrade openly ridiculed and mocked Brown because "he and other Defendant officers are allowed to engage in unlawful attacks and arrests of African Americans without justification and then relish such events without any fear of real discipline," the suits says, (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel).

$ 7 Million Verdict in Wisconsin for Family of Woman Gunned Down by Police in 2014

The face of hate in Madison, Wisconsin wears military blue
and black. Killers, Justin Bailey and Gary Pihlaja, have bad
attitudes and they found a home with the local police.
Madison, Wisconsin — A jury in U.S. District Court in Wisconsin spoke loud and clear:

26-year-old Ashley DiPiazza need not have been gunned down by Madison police in 2014.  Post-911, unreasonable policing in which everyone is subject to lethal force by occupying military-police units must stop now.

For family and friends of Ashley DiPiazza, a record $7 Million verdict will do little to ease the trauma of losing a young woman to killers. Said Joe DiPiazza, Ashley's father: "She had just told me all her friends were married and had kids, and she felt a little left out. She’d ask, ‘Dad, what kind of mother do you think I’d make to my child?’ I told her she’d be great,'" (Schultz, Wisconsin State Journal).

The federal civil rights case, Estate of Ashley DiPiazza v. City of Madison, Justin Bailey, Gary Pihlaja, resulted in "$4 million in compensatory and $3 million in punitive damages," reports Rob Schultz, Wisconsin State Journal.

Ashley DiPiazza, 26, was gunned
down by Madison, Wisconsin
police in 2014
Even as the Wisconsin citizenry is increasingly saying, 'no' to police killing people, the local police union and Madison Police, 'never-saw-a-killer-cop-I-didn't-like' Mike Koval bemoaned without irony police now may have to think before killing people, (Schultz, Wisconsin State Journal).

Life is cheap for killers, Justin Bailey and Gary Pihlaja, Not so for most others. Reports Schultz, in the Wisconsin State Journal:

After the verdict, the jury heard friends and family members recall how DiPiazza had many friends, loved her family, was responsible and had a couple of relationships with young men that left her disheartened.

At the time of the shooting, DiPiazza also was grieving over the impending death of her mother, Michelle Duby, of Lake Geneva, who died of cancer two days after DiPiazza was killed, DiPiazza’s father said.

A disheartened Ashley DiPiazza was gunned down by miserable people to whom life means little.

It's not supposed to be this way. But Ashley DiPiazza is just another stat on the Killed-by-Police chronicle of horror:
Ashley DiPiazza was killed by Wisconsin police in May 2014, (Killed by Police)

Big Ag in Wisconsin: Depleted, Fecal-Infused Water Is Good for You

Big Agriculture PR Offensive: Lies and Lies
Update: Big Ag's presentation in Portage County in central Wisconsin falls flat. About 14 member of Protect Wood County went to the Portage County Board meeting Tuesday night. The place was absolutely packed and a number of us had to sit in an adjoining courtroom and watch the
proceedings through a video link. Louis Wysocki gave the WPVGA, [agri-business] presentation and did a remarkably poor job of it.  After that 10 citizens gave three-minute minute rebuttals that were uniformly articulate and fact-based. Our Criste Greening did exceptionally well. Then three County Board members spoke in favor of protecting our water.  Louis and Big Ag had no one speaking in their support!
 ---
Amid safe drinking-water concerns among Wisconsin families, Big Agriculture has launched a new public relations project just in time for the holidays, as 1,000s of citizens revamp efforts to stop a massive a factory farm from operating.

The project includes a new, high-end website purporting to be devoted to water conservation, offering readers a 180-page Orwellian "High Capacity Wells Fact Book," cloaked in the language of conserve-and-protect our water. [Nice piece of work, if content is ignored.]

High-capacity water wells draw 70 or more gallons of groundwater a minute, or 100,800 or more gallons of water a day. Under Republican administration, the safety and protection of private water wells in Wisconsin is now virtually nonexistent, a regulatory regime that is being litigated by clean water advocates, as clean water groups look to federal law in the face of Republican hostility.

The industrial-scale water depleters operate under the prevailing Big Ag assumptions that water is in endless supply; rural Wisconsin is an unlimited sewer; and rural, Wisconsin folks' abiding belief that huge agribusiness are the inheritors of the mythical small farmer—the Wisconsin volk, (Mal Contends).

Who knew Big Ag was in league with the Sierra Club, and not the corporate institutional imperatives of generating profits and transferring costs onto society? No, Wisconsinites are led to believe the Big Ag industry are water warriors.

Boat launch at Long Lake, near Plainfield, Wisconsin, no longer
reaches the water, depleted and drained by high-capacity wells.
Nothing to see here, assures industrialized agriculture.
Photo: Kate Golden, (Wisconsin Watch)
Asked about Big Ag's all-we-want-is-clean-and-safe-water messages emitted last campaign season, clean water activists laughed, pointing to Wisconsin's Republican attorney general, Wisconsin's Republican state assembly, and everything Republican.

Popular sentiment notes industrialized agriculture's costs inflicted onto communities in water pollution, water depletion, air pollution, and medical illness.

So, the Big Ag propaganda offensive omits mention of these unpleasant consequences of vectoring millions of gallons of untreated cow feces into the air and water.

Big Ag assures us factory farms are carrying on the tradition of Wisconsin's "great grandfathers" believing in the manner of a zealot the holy mission that Big Ag must "protect the land and protect the water for without both of them, your life as a farmer will be forever forgotten." Big Ag will say and do anything.

Big Ag owners are not farmers, they are corporatists.

What's next? In the next legislative session, Republicans and too many Democrats are poised to legislate a massive give-away of public water to Big Ag.

Having decimated state government protection of water, in Wisconsin's counties and municipalities Big Ag is on the offensive:

From Protect Wood County and Its Neighbors

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The attack has officially begun!  We have heard rumblings that bad water bills are staged to be presented as soon as our Wisconsin Legislature is back in session. To promote a smooth transition for passage of these bad bills, large scale AG groups are hitting local governments with preplanned presentations promoting  their “Water Fact Book” created by the industry which is packed full of false claims and misleading information.

It is apparent Big Ag is setting the stage for an all-out assault on our groundwater resources.

A memo from the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Grows Association (WPVGA) outlines how they are planning to target all the central sands county boards and have someone present these boards with the High Capacity Wells fact book 'facts', graphs, data during the December board meetings.

Purpose: (taken from the memo)
Our main goal is to head off local activist pressure on county and town boards to prevent them from passing irrational resolutions or writing letters to the legislature which could have a negative impact on our legislative efforts.

Our group was notified a few days ago that Louis Wysocki is scheduled to present at the upcoming Portage County board meeting on Tuesday Dec 20th.  We have also heard that the plan is to hit all local county boards in a very short time period.  We have looked over the Wood and Adams County Board agendas for this month and so far have not come across a planned presentation.  If it does hit either county we will let you know ASAP.

What does this mean for you and me?
#1 – We need all our supporters to reactivate and re-engage.   A concerted effort is needed in showing a presence at local meetings both in Wood County and in our sister communities that need assistance.

#2 – Be ready to contact your local and state officials with your questions and concerns about groundwater legislation.

#3 – Be vigilant at checking your emails and Facebook accounts for last minute updates and alerts.  Often hearings for legislative bills are given only 24 hours’ notice and plans are made at the last moment to hit Madison.

#4 – SHARE, SHARE, SHARE – Share information about bad legislation, upcoming meetings, encourage participation on our email list and Facebook page.  KNOWLEDGE IS POWER we need everyone sharing information with family and friends to successfully beat back the bad water legislation coming our way.

Corporate Media Fans Hysteria

Have you heard what Donald Trump did? He fired the Rule
of Law, and then nuked Article III through the power of his
words. Lovers of liberty, Donald Trump is coming, Trump is
coming. Or, perhaps hysteria and delusion have set in.
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Chuck Todd.

(Longfellow)
NBC News political director Chuck Todd made an appearance on Morning Joe Tuesday, championing the federal judiciary.

Tracing his lineage to Gutenberg, Todd offered to take criticism emitting from Donald Trump against U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel on behalf of the "press," warning Trump should stop saying mean things about federal judges such as Curiel.

Trump is "eroding the rule of law," ... "eroding trust in the judiciary," warned Todd. "That's a slippery slope."

Todd didn't specify the darkness to which the slippery slope leads, but his comments follow by days the hysteria of Adam Liptak and the New York Times in similar grandiose posturing regarding the judiciary and the rule of law.

As a historical figure, surly Todd has studied in some detail the American judiciary and its oppression of American citizens who sometimes look to the judicial branch when, most commonly, individual states target Constitutional rights of disfavored swaths of the citizenry.

Have not noticed Todd defending civil liberties against incursions from the Republican-ruled red states. Or for that matter from the Federalist Society's approved federal judges who carry out the intentions of the Koch brothers and the Bradley Foundation.

Libel Law

Should we be concerned Donald Trump will loosen federal libel doctrine as Trump once blustered. No. How would Trump accomplish this? Trump didn't say, and neither has Todd, the Times nor the Post. [In February, Trump said, "One of the things I'm going to do if I win, and I hope we do and we're certainly leading. I'm going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. We're going to open up those libel laws. So when The New York Times writes a hit piece which is a total disgrace or when The Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because they're totally protected," (The Politico)].

Trump is hardly the first politician to express dissatisfaction with, or to venture the outlines of a bone-headed argument against New York Times Co. v. Sullivan (1964).

Federal Judiciary Deserves No Trust

Perhaps Todd could cast his gaze at the United States Supreme Court. Immigrant families face a more present danger from rightwing judges as they await word whether the corrupt and ideologically bankrupt U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's attacks will carry the day in United States v. Texas, (No. 15-674) (Denniston, SCOTUSBlog).

Hanen and his ilk are human garbage. Much more dangerous than the ravings of the whiny and incoherent Donald Trump.

Federal litigants face a roll of the dice in the federal judiciary. Nothing better.

Meanwhile, the farce of the American electoral process continues, with no alarm sounded by Chuck Todd and the New York Times, (CounterPunch).

NYT Finds an Independent Judiciary and Rule of Law

Update: Think federal judges cannot be the problem? Meet Andrew Hanen, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, (SCOTUSBlog, Ballotpedia).
---
Here I was thinking corruption, ideology and cold-blooded dogma define the federal judicial branch, citizens litigating in federal court are at the mercy of a shake of the dice.

Adam Liptak and his editors at the New York Times have declared in the news columns that not only do we have an independent judiciary and the rule of law as defining features of the judicial branch, but Donald Trump, he of the many incoherent and bigoted rants, is a threat to same.

At least we enjoy an independent judiciary; that's a relief.

If a reader looks near the bottom of Liptak's some-1,800-word piece, she can find this: "Many of Mr. Trump’s statements about legal issues were extemporaneous and resist conventional legal analysis."

Still, Trump's candidacy is a threat. Interesting.

And no legal scholars were available for knocking down the thrust of Liptak's piece.

Here I am mistakenly thinking Trump is an unpolished lunatic but reflecting the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Thanks for sounding the alarm that Trump is something different, Mr. Liptak; was not aware how independent and incorruptible federal judges are.

Nor was it clear how vulnerable the judiciary is to the ravings of Donald Trump.

Hysteria Against Trump Requires Turning Away

Update: Think federal judges cannot be the problem? Meet Andrew Hanen, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, (SCOTUSBlog, Ballotpedia).

Why would any American not defend the inherent right of Donald Trump to give voice to the vitriol and hate behind his movement?

It's because the liberties animating a non-authoritarian politics face determined enemies across the political spectrum in the American political culture.

The substance of anti-Trump arguments, such as there exists substance, suggests implicitly or explicitly a denial of Trump's right to excoriate a federal judge such that the denial promotes a greater social good.

For example, as one line of reasoning goes, because Trump's view are racist, Trump no longer enjoys the right to voice his views.

This reasoning should require no further comment, but this is the USA and defense of liberty usually stops at the bumper sticker or comment below the political column.

Right Wisconsin's Charlie Sykes offers a more nuanced and equally absurd take: Because Trump is a candidate for the presidency of the United States, Trump no longer retains the right to criticize a federal judge. Writes Sykes:

Reflect on this for a moment. A candidate for president of the United States using his pulpit to personally attack a federal judge presiding over litigation involving that candidate’s fraudulent business practices. At best, it was yet another petulant outburst; at worst, it was intended to bully and intimidate the judge, perhaps an attempt to push him to step down. In either case, Trump is using his political position to try to derail his own day in court.

And yet, we are told, this is the man we will should trust with the future of the judiciary?

The tyranny of the judiciary is long documented in America, but one case ought to suffice to goad political commentators in considering Trump's rights vis a vis the federal judiciary, and the question how exactly is Trump bullying and intimidating Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California?

Sykes doesn't say, but all he references are the absurd rants of Trump which, if Sykes were more rigorous, he would recognize as no departure from the neo-facsist Repulbican Party. [Note: Trump's silly remarks amount to: Because Trump has proposed a wall between Mexico and the U.S., and the mass deportation of Mexican immigrants, (presumably without due process in Trump's view), the Mexican "heritage" of Judge Curiel is a disqualification of Curiel's impartiality in hearing federal litigation involving Trump.

Sykes on the other hand argues that because Trump as the presumptive Republican Party nominee is arguing his position publicly as a component of his presidential campaign, Trump is improperly impugning the impartiality of the judiciary branch. Both are ludicrous positions, but Trump as well as Sykes retain their First Amendment rights to state their positions, irrespective to the soundness and rigor lacking in both arguments.]

United States v. Dellinger et al

As to that one case, consider the 1969-1970 indictment, trial and convictions, (along with a mistrial), of peace and social justice activists in United States v. Dellinger et al, overturned on appeal, (472 F.2d 340; 1972 U.S. App. LEXIS 6620; 22 A.L.R. Fed. 159) (February 8, 1972, Argued; November 21, 1972, Decided).

The Chicago Eight were peace and social justice activists who faced prosecution for allegedly violating federal Anti-riot Act, (18 U.S.C.S. § 1821), and a host of other ludicrous charges steaming from protests at the 1968 Chicago Democratic Party Convention. Ironically, the Anti-riot Act was a provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1968.

The defendants were David Dellinger, Rennie Davis, Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale, John Froines and Lee Weiner, all of whom were friendly to or intimately associated with the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam, MOBE, to name one conspiring organization, "others identified in the record being Professor Sidney Peck, Western Reserve University, Professor Donald Kalish, University of California at Los Angeles, Msgr. Charles O. Rice, Pittsburgh, and Rev. Ralph Abernathy, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Atlanta. Rennie Davis, aged 28, was MOBE's Project Director for these activities and set up an office in Chicago." (NexisLexis).

These activists continually ridiculed the presiding U.S. District Judge Julius Jennings Hoffman, and the U.S. Attorney Thomas Foran.

The defendants were ultimately vindicated, legally and morally.

Now, if say George McGovern or Edmund Muskie had ridiculed Judge Hoffman as an imbecile and a fascist as part of their campaigns for the presidency, would McGovern and Muskie had been accused of bullying and intimidating the judiciary branch? Of course not.

Or would McGovern and Muskie's complicity in bullying behavior be dependent on whether McGovern and Muskie were directly party in federal litigation involving Judge Hoffman? If you believe what Charlie Sykes writes.

Sykes and others' are ludicrous positions, as is the failure to call for the rights of Donald Trump as part of one's own political commitment.

In America hysteria is usually more popular than history. I'll have to look and see if the federal Anti-riot Act, (18 U.S.C.S. § 1821), is still around, because not a few would like to see the provisions used against Donald Trump.

Trump Has Every Right to Speak Against Federal Judge

Donald Trump is engaged as a defendant in federal civil litigation, Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel for the United States District Court for the Southern District of California presiding.

Trump feels aggrieved and wronged by Judge Curiel and has stated his objection in a press conference on political issues of the current presidential campaign of which Trump is the presumptive Republican Party nominee.

Trump has every right to so voice his opinions, no matter how crude, racist, unwise and ugly Trump's opinions are.

The liberty interests of the First Amendment exists for Donald Trump as it does for all of us.

Judge Curiel should so state his commitment to the First Amendment after calling into question Trump's right to speak without fear of judicial retaliation.
