Colorado Mass Murderer: "No More Baby Parts"

Another misogynistic nutcase called to the fascist cause by anti-choice propaganda massacres innocents and engages in an act of domestic terrorism.

Robert Lewis Dear allegedly killed three people and injured 9 others yesterday at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In the hours after the shooting little was known about Dear or his motivations.

Saturday evening, those motivations began to come into focus. NBC News and the Washington Post reported that, after the shooting, Dear told law enforcement officials 'no more baby parts.'

The phrase clearly references a series of videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion advocacy group. The videos alleged that Planned Parenthood was illegally selling body parts from fetuses for profit. These allegations were untrue and the videos relied on deceptive editing.

Still, the videos have become a rallying cry for the right, including the Republican presidential candidates. In August, Marco Rubio said, 'what’s happening at Planned Parenthood, what’s being revealed in these videos, is atrocious, it’s grotesque, it’s barbaric.' Rubio later accused Planned Parenthood of pushing women into getting abortions “so that those tissues can be harvested and sold for a profit.” He told TMZ that people should be more 'fired up' about the Planned Parenthood video.

Republican governors and other Republicans (and only Republicans) are using the demonstrably false videos to try to halt women's right to choose what to do with their bodies, and halt promising stem cell work, (Mal Contends).

Misogynistic Republican Anti-choice Stand Needs More Light

Replace legitimate rape with legitimate health and legitimate life concerns and the new Republican Party position on women's choice comes to life: Complete ban of all abortion, and avoid talk about what a woman wants to do with her body

Republican presidential aspirants struggled to condemn rape to the chagrin of decent Americans and GOP political strategists one election ago.

Little has changed.

"This is actually pretty simple. If you’re about to talk about rape as anything other than a brutal and horrible crime, stop," said Republican strategist Kevin Madden in 2013, as a former senior adviser in Mitt Romney’s campaign. (Haberkorn, Politico)

Today, evangelicals and Republicans' perverse misogyny has GOP presidential candidates avoiding "legitimate rape" comments (ala Todd Akin), instead casting incredulity about the health, life (and implicitly the will) of women contemplating what to do with their bodies.

This comes as Republicans close Planned Parenthood clinics, tried to defund all clinics or shut down the U.S. government, force ultrasounds and "waiting periods" onto women to "provide information" for women among other "cool thing(s) out there," as Scott Walker put it in his Todd Akin moment earlier this year. Scott Walker — and all GOP presidential candidates — now pretend to attainment in medical science and bio-medical ethics as exemplified by Walker declaring there are no circumstances in which the life of a woman is threatened by bringing pregnancies to full term, no matter what women and their doctors say and want.

Must be frustrating for Scott Walker and Republicans because women are not listening to the information Walker and Republican governors "provide" for women.

At the Fox News debate, Megyn Kelly, asked Walker, "Would you really let a mother die rather than have an abortion? And with 83 percent of the American public in favor of a life exception, are you too out of the mainstream on this issue to win the general election?"

Walker responded: "Well, I'm pro-life, I've always been pro-life, and I've got a position that I think is consistent with many Americans out there. I believe that that is an unborn child that's in need of protection out there, and I've said many a time that that unborn child can be protected, and there are many other alternatives that can also protect the life of that mother. Walker likes to make things up as he goes along, and has an odd incapacity to think on his feet, especially when explaining his commitment to an abortion ban, including cases of rape, incest, health, life and of course the will of a woman.

Walker's spokesperson didn't help matters.

Writes the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Spicuzza:

When asked what better medical options are available — and whether Walker believes there are no instances in which a family and doctors have to choose between the life of the pregnant woman and the life of her fetus — his campaign spokeswoman AshLee Strong repeated late Friday (August 7) that he is '100% pro-life.'

'He acknowledges what science says, and that is that an unborn child is that — a child, and deserving of protection,' Strong said.

Replace legitimate rape with legitimate health and legitimate life concerns and you have the new Republican Party position on women's choice, with appeals to "science," the "false choice" and misunderstanding women have when they believe their health, life and will require an abortion, ... or even access to birth control.

The up side is the 18-point gender gap of women against Mitt Romney in 2012 will likely grow in 2016 with the spreading radicalism of the Republican Party. (Bassett, Huffington Post)

The GOP solution is actually pretty simple. If Republicans enact laws or talk about laws threatening women's health, lives and will as anything other than a brutal and horrible assault against the humanity of women, stop.

Update: Worth noting is the fact Scott Walker says running for governor in 2010, and not running in 2006 are choices divinely inspired. "I wasn’t trusting and obeying my Savior. Maybe the "Savior" is privy to Scott Walker's decisions, but he keeps them secret from the people of Wisconsin.

In a stealthy move craven by even by the standards of Scott Walker, Walker signed one of the country's most restrictive anti-women, anti-choice bills into law on July 5th in a private ceremony when most Wisconsin citizens were celebrating an extended Independence Day weekend.

Were Wisconsin women consulted? Have Wisconsin women given their consent to these forced ultrasounds, closures of planned parenthood clinics, and onerous restrictions on women's doctors, as prescribed by the GOP legislation?

No.

Wisconsin Act 37 was rushed through in nine days and signed in private to prevent women from speaking out on what the male Republican Wisconsin leadership have decided is necessary for women.

Women's views were deemed not germane to this act of law.

That is the whole point of these bills, similar to other anti-women bills passed in states where Republicans have either gerrymandered districts to keep power or are located in the southern United States.

The objective of anti-women bills is that women should not legally possess consent of their bodies; women should legally have no right to be consulted because the Republican Party knows better than women and women's doctors on matters of women's bodies and women's health.

If that sounds very creepy and bordering on pathological; it is precisely because these Republicans are pathological and very creepy, though they have decided to tone down the GOP's rape-is-not-so-bad-talk now because they have discovered that rape does not play well politically.

Misogyny is a pathology and a very dangerous illness when dedicated misogynists are in public office.

Republicans can never win the abortion battle on persuasion, so coercion and misdirection are their chosen tactics.

Call me an optimist, but I believe with a mobilized American public, the assaults of the misogynists, the Republicans, will be beaten back.

But this war on women is disgraceful.

Planned Parenthood and Affiliated Medical Services have filed a lawsuit on behalf of women [Case N.: 13-CV-465] seeking an injunction (a court direction stopping the law from taking effect) on numerous Constitutional grounds.

The suit notes "The Act rushed through the Wisconsin Legislature, passing less than 10 days after its introduction on June 4, 2013. The Act, moreover, takes immediate effect on July 8, 2013, even though there is no way for Plaintiffs to obtain the necessary privileges (or even attempt them) so quickly, in violation of their due process rights under the Fourteenth Amendment. Moreover, by making their ability to provide abortions contingent on their physicians' obtaining admitting privileges at local hospitals, the Act unconstitutionally delegates standardless and unreviewable authority to private parties - the hospital - also in violation of Plaintiffs' due process rights."

The suit was filed on July 5.

An injunction is likely as the plain text of Act 37 does comprise an undue burden on women deciding health decisions that are unpopular with the Republican Party.

Scott Walker Omits Great Britain in Explanation of Independence Day

Most Americans on this last July 4th had a least a passing understanding that we celebrate Independence Day as a national holiday marking the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain and King George III on July 4, 1776.

Our founding fathers decided that we had "certain unalienable Rights" such as Life, Liberty and so forth and to borrow from the Declaration, "Governments are instituted among Men, [sic] deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Knowing Walker is a lightweight, I asked Dan Bice on April 18 2013 in a Political Chat column if Bice thought Walker would get savaged by the national press [for being so, in a word, dumb].

Bice wrote in part: "Gov. Walker is not an ideas guy like Mitch Daniels. You saw that during his recent Sunday morning TV appearance discussing gay marriage. Walker trotted out the idea of having govt get out of the marriage business and leaving that to religions. Not a great idea for any number of reasons. A couple of errors like that during a presidential debate could earn him the distinction of being the Gov. Perry of the 2016 campaign."

I think judged in terms of being a lightweight, "not an ideas guy," Walker has already earned the distinction of benighted clown.

We the people decide what our government is, its powers come from our consent, and we the people certainly do not want the Republican Party to decide when and whether a woman decides to give birth.

The problem for now of course is that Walker also happens to be a misogynist, extremist Tea Bagger and and corrupt public official selling away Wisconsin to the highest bidder, besides not being so very bright.

Did you hear Republicans campaign on Wisconsin adopting an ALEC-Supported, for-profit Bail Bonding bill slipped into the budget?

Republican do not believe in accountability.

Their conception of government is authoritarian, disdainful of civil liberties, and misogynistic.

Rand Paul likes to acclaim his political affinity for Scott Walker.

And Paul, like Scott Walker, says he doesn't trust government to make decisions, unless it's government telling women what to do with their bodies; that's okay—both Walker and Paul are anti-choice always and wish to defund Planned Parenthood.

Another unsavory aspect the two politicians have in common is evasion and lying.

Here's a great piece about Rand Paul claiming to not know anything about the abortion legislation he’s co-sponsoring.

Rand Paul had praised Walker's Recall win, propped up by $70-million-plus in out-of-state funds, that he said fortold of a tough battle for President Obama against Mitt Romney in November 2012.

In June 2012, "Paul echoed the sentiments of many [Republicans] who believe Walker's defeat of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) set the stage for a tough 2012 presidential battle in the Badger State," wrote Paige Lavender.

Right. Obama won by six-plus points in Wisconsin, though Paul Ryan says it was all those "urban" voters turning out to vote, pretending to be good Americans.

Now, Paul, like Scott Walker, pretends to be gunning for a run for president in 2016.

Republicans cheat, lie and mislead voters, and when they get political power in individual states they pounce upon women like a molesting priest of the Catholic Church

There is something pathological about the political Party (Republicans and Tea Partiers) that wants to decide whether a woman ought to have a child, and force that Party's choice onto women.

Scott Walker says even in cases of rape and incest, women should be forced to conceive, and should be subject to criminal sanctions if women decide on birth control or abortion.

This is Walker's outlandish and misogynistic position, though he keeps this crazed view down low because 'legitimate rape' and other such GOP folly such as Walker's don't play well politically.

Walker has, during his past tenure as a Wisconsin legislator, engaged in a "an all-out assault on abortion rights," as Andy Kroll at Mother Jones notes.

Now, Walker is governor.

And the assault continues.

The Republican Party and Tea Party do not openly run on anti-choice campaign promises.

But they do make anti-choice legislation a "priority," once in office.

They cheat, lie and mislead voters, and when they get power in individual states they pounce upon women like a molesting priest of the Catholic Church.

Actually, without the "specific support" of the Catholic Church, the anti-choice movement would be virtually toothless in America, as Faye Wattleton, former president of Planned Parenthood (1978–1992) told this writer in 1990. The Church is getting worse.

The Catholic Church hierarchy and GOP want abortion gone; they can't use persuasion so they use duplicity; and now the two stained institutions are staunch allies.

Witness Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) who actually worked in 2010 before his election against the Wisconsin Child Victims Act, allowing victims to seek redress for rape and molestation suffered as children and inflicted by the Catholic Church.

Johnson, like Walker, did not campaign on his crazy, rightwing social policies. He stressed jobs and the economy. Sounds familiar.

"Faced with a looming re-election bid in 2014 and near-to-last place in job growth, Governor Walker promised us that from here on out he would 'be focused like a laser on job growth,'" notes Jud Lounsbury. "With this laser-like focus, Gov. Walker and company have a promising lead in their search for jobs: Wisconsin women's vaginas! Of course, to actually find those jobs, you need a really long probe to really search for those jobs. They're in there somewhere and by golly the Wisconsin Republicans are going to find 'em!"

Walker's legislative cohorts—Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald—have decided that forced rape, also known as mandatory "ultrasound" for women seeking abortions is a long overdue, legislative "priority," Jessica VanEgeren reports.   From the Cap Times:

Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, is the former public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. She says requiring an ultrasound to be performed before all abortions would mean an invasive procedure for women who are less than 12 weeks pregnant.

At that stage in a pregnancy, she said, the uterus may be blocked by the pelvis, preventing a traditional ultrasound from picking up the image. Thus, a vaginal ultrasound would need to be performed in order to provide an image for a medical professional to discuss with a woman.

NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin today denounced yet another anti-choice effort to focus on divisive attacks on women instead of the jobs and healthcare needed for Wisconsin. Anti-choice leadership in the legislature has indicated they consider forced ultrasounds for women to be a "priority,” a move that would put politicians between women and their doctors. The proposed measure is Wisconsin Right to Life’s agenda, and legislators’ comments in support followed Wisconsin Right to Life’s lobby day.

Wisconsin Right to Life and other anti-choice organizations claim their proposal would not require a trans-vaginal ultrasounds for women seeking abortion care. However, the medical reality is that for women early in pregnancy, a trans-vaginal ultrasound is likely the only technology that can comply with the proposed law’s requirements.

"Either Wisconsin Right to Life and anti-choice politicians do not understand the medicine involved or they are misrepresenting the impact of this legislation. Either answer is unacceptable,” said Jenni Dye, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. "Decisions on whether any medical procedure, invasive or not, is needed should be made between a woman and her medically trained provider.”

"Politicians know that forced trans-vaginal ultrasounds would be met with public outcry, as we saw in Virginia last year. Voters across Wisconsin sent a clear message in November that they are tired of divisive attacks and ready for the Legislature to work together to focus on jobs and the economy. Speaker Vos and Majority Leader Fitzgerald apparently missed the memo that it is time for them to do their own job, not our doctor’s job.”
