Wisconsin Congressional Delegation Dominated by Pro-Genocide Support

Rep.Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin) takes in
$10,000s from the Israeli Lobby; accepting
with no publicly voiced shame the endorsement
of J-Street, the Liberal Zionist lobby standing
 for permanent occupation, ethnic cleansing,
starvation, genocide.

Wisconsin Congressional Democrats Jettison Anti-intervention Legacy in Face of Israeli Lobby

Madison, Wisconsin — Rep.Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin) is a 74-four-old congresswoman representing a gerrymandered district in hyper-segregated Milwaukee, and greater Milwaukee.
Moore doesn't know much, doesn't want to know much.

Snug in identity politics, Moore quietly draws her congresswoman's salary, (since 2005), distributing over $800,000 in campaign funds to her sister, (Schoffstall, Fox News) in her ultra-safe district, and political nepotism to her son, Wisconsin State Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee).

Gwen Moore

But Moore, like nine of ten members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation, takes in $10,000s and political support from the Lobby, the Israel Lobby, drumming up support for Israeli-U.S.-committed Genocide, occupation, systemic torture and open sadism.

What would you do in the face of a Holocaust, used to be a question in the American culture?
If you're a member of the Wisconsin congressional delegation, you rake in political money| from the perpetrator supporters, the Israeli Lobby advocating occupation, torture and Genocide.

To this day, the head of J-Street, establishment liberal Zionism, refuses to use the term, Genocide, to describe the Genocide in Palestine, (Times of Israel).

The Genocide and sadism committed by Israel and the U.S. is so overwhelmingly clear, liberal Zionism is widely regraded as immoral as Israel threatens to expel, starve, kill and maim even more 100,000s as it moves into the West Bank.

Writes journalist and Genocide opponent, Krystal Ball this week:

The power of the Israel Lobby has become so immense that both congressional Democrats and Republicans across the nation, in spectacles of perfidy, mostly refuse to pay more than lip service to condemning Genocide, no matter how horrific images coming from Palestine revolt the conscience.

The American people are way in front of Congress, though this may change, (Brookings; The Intercept, Mondoweiss).

Sen. Tammy Baldwin

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) leads
the Wisconsin congressional delegation in
accepting Israel Lobby funds. Baldwin is a
reliable vote for the Israeli Lobby, and is
known as more calculating and mealy-mouthed,
than principled and courageous.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) leads the Wisconsin congressional delegation in accepting Israel Lobby funds, rejecting her posturing as a peace-and-justice senator in the tradition of the La Follette family of Wisconsin, (Conniff, Wisconsin Examiner).
Baldwin is owned by the Israeli Lobby, though Wisconsin's history of anti-intervention and peace compels her to pay lip service to human rights to stay in office.

Baldwin's office has been the site of several sit-ins since the Genocide began.

Baldwin accepted $714,566 from the Lobby; $221,291 from J Street PAC.

Baldwin accepted endorsement from AIPAC allies, J Street, NORPAC (formerly known as North Jersey PAC), JAC (Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs PAC), and FIPAC, (Friends of Israel Political Action Committee).

Rep. Mark Pocan

Alone among Wisconsin's congressional delegation in refusing the Israeli Lobby's funding and support is Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin).

Pocan represents the Dane County (Madison)-based district that maintains a huge peace movement population, such as Jewish Voice for Peace (Facebook), Veterans for Peace Clarence Kailin Madison Chapter 25., and World Beyond War.

Representative Mark Pocan (WI) is
alone in Wisconsin's congressional
delegation in rejecting all Israeli Lobby
money, as well as refusing endorsements
from all pro-Genocide politcal forces.
Pocan has ramped up his criticism of Israel and AIPAC as the Genocide and sadism have isolated Israel from the civilized world.

This follows work last year when Pocan "spoke on the House Floor about the ongoing war in Gaza after the Israeli military targeted a World Central Kitchen humanitarian aid convoy killing seven, including an American citizen. Pocan highlighted a letter he led, along with 55 of his colleagues, to President Biden and Secretary Blinken ... ," (WisPolitics).

In late July this year, Pocan wrote on X: "There is NO justification for people starving in Gaza. Israel under Netanyahu is enabling the lack of food, even shooting people at food sites. The World will turn against them if they don’t change course. It is immoral."

"Groups like @AIPAC MUST speak out or be exposed."

Except for Wisconsin Democratic Congress members here,  joined by Republicans, few Wisconsin folks disagree.

Still, in the face of the attempted destruction of the Palestinian people, what we do as moral agents and those who represent the American people in Congress seems obscenely inadequate to many.

This Genocide is impossible to hide, no matter how many journalists Israel kills, and how many members of Congress shill for Israel.

This Israeli compulsion to hide the truth of Genocide does reveal that Israel recognizes a world of decent people who will rise up against Israel's evil, no matter how many Tammy Baldwins and Elissa Slotkins shame our nation.

For Wisconsin Gov in 2014, We Need Gwen Moore or Russ Feingold

Talk around the camp fire is about whom Wisconsin voters should put up against Scott Walker-Christopher Cline and the Koch Brothers, should Walker decide he has sufficiently decimated our state and escaped criminal charges.

Scott Walker running for president is not going to happen.

As for governor, some are suggesting Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse, Wisconsin).

My two cents: Ron Kind just will not cut it for Wisconsin; for the same reasons that you don't widen an ice fishing hole, jump in and go for a swim. You just don't do it.

We need Gwen Moore or Russ Feingold. And we need one of them to declare fast.

Don't wait until after August.

Talent Ready to Fill Sen. Kohl's Seat

  • Former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Middleton)
  • Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Madison)
  • Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee)
That's quite a choice.

Herb Kohl never wanted to be more than a mediocre senator, a nice guy who in his private life did a lot more for Wisconsin as a citizen than he did as a U.S. senator.

Kohl didn't have use his wealth to help our state but he did.

But a movement player is what is needed now for the Senate seat, and we have the people ready to step up.

Thinking Ahead to 2012 Senate Race

Senate Guru as always keeps its keen eye on the future of the U.S. Senate.

Guru, the nation's top political blog focused on U.S. Senate races across the country, makes the following prediction for Wisconsin's 2012 U.S. Senate race (a presidential election year):

My guess is that any Republican of note with Senatorial ambitions will wait for Senator Herb Kohl to retire in 2012, when he will be 77-years-old. In fact, here's the earliest prediction on WI-Sen-'12 that you're going to find anywhere: Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin will beat Republican Rep. Paul Ryan by five to ten points, enjoying the coattails of President Obama's re-election bid.

I have been critical of Herb Kohl in the past, but few can doubt that as a civic-minded American, Herb Kohl will rank as one of the premier individuals who have benefited not just Milwaukee but the entire state during his private and public career here.

As for Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Middleton), up for re-election next year, Guru shows Russ trouncing everyone. [That is why a Mark Neumann run for governor vis a vis senate looks almost certain.] No one touches Russ.

As for succeeding Kohl, Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Madison) and Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) would both make inspiring and historical choices as the first woman U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. Both are already poised to join the likes of Kastenmeier and La Follette.

As someone who worked hard in the field in 1998 for Baldwin's first election to Congress, I'm leaning to Rep. Moore based solely on the strength of Moore's courageous vote against a resolution effectively absolving Israel its responsibility for its crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Moore really had nothing to gain from the vote, except for standing up for a people brutalized in a continuing crime. That's the type of courage that we'll need more of in the years ahead. And we would like to see Baldwin exhibit the same grit as Moore in meeting a defining moral issue of our times.

Israel Failed

Update II: Gideon Levy in Haaretz: "The only recognition that is needed now is Israel's recognition of the Palestinians as human beings."

Update: Inside Gaza: The Land of Ghosts

Some wonder if the humanistic dictum of standing with the victims of militarism and racism that - far away from the slaughter of Palestinians and assorted Arabs - animated the creation of Israel lives on today.

No.

How many corpses of Bassem Ibrahim Abu-Rahma and Rachel Corrie need shatter the lives of their families and communities before we realize that whatever idealism and humanism existed in Israel has vanished as it has become a failed moral state.

But it's not the ravings of foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman or rightwing coalitions that brought this tragedy about.

It's inaction, far too many good people in Israel who did nothing these last 40 years as Israel became a terror state and a moral disgrace.

Find out who among your national representatives is working against militarism and for humanism, because without the abiding, bipartisan support of America this continuing atrocity could not go on. See Gwen Moore, profile in courage on Gaza.

From Amy Goodman's Democracy Now last month on the anniversary of Corrie's death:
