Wisconsin Congressional Delegation Dominated by Pro-Genocide Support

Rep.Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin) takes in
$10,000s from the Israeli Lobby; accepting
with no publicly voiced shame the endorsement
of J-Street, the Liberal Zionist lobby standing
 for permanent occupation, ethnic cleansing,
starvation, genocide.

Wisconsin Congressional Democrats Jettison Anti-intervention Legacy in Face of Israeli Lobby

Madison, Wisconsin — Rep.Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin) is a 74-four-old congresswoman representing a gerrymandered district in hyper-segregated Milwaukee, and greater Milwaukee.
Moore doesn't know much, doesn't want to know much.

Snug in identity politics, Moore quietly draws her congresswoman's salary, (since 2005), distributing over $800,000 in campaign funds to her sister, (Schoffstall, Fox News) in her ultra-safe district, and political nepotism to her son, Wisconsin State Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee).

Gwen Moore

But Moore, like nine of ten members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation, takes in $10,000s and political support from the Lobby, the Israel Lobby, drumming up support for Israeli-U.S.-committed Genocide, occupation, systemic torture and open sadism.

What would you do in the face of a Holocaust, used to be a question in the American culture?
If you're a member of the Wisconsin congressional delegation, you rake in political money| from the perpetrator supporters, the Israeli Lobby advocating occupation, torture and Genocide.

To this day, the head of J-Street, establishment liberal Zionism, refuses to use the term, Genocide, to describe the Genocide in Palestine, (Times of Israel).

The Genocide and sadism committed by Israel and the U.S. is so overwhelmingly clear, liberal Zionism is widely regraded as immoral as Israel threatens to expel, starve, kill and maim even more 100,000s as it moves into the West Bank.

Writes journalist and Genocide opponent, Krystal Ball this week:

The power of the Israel Lobby has become so immense that both congressional Democrats and Republicans across the nation, in spectacles of perfidy, mostly refuse to pay more than lip service to condemning Genocide, no matter how horrific images coming from Palestine revolt the conscience.

The American people are way in front of Congress, though this may change, (Brookings; The Intercept, Mondoweiss).

Sen. Tammy Baldwin

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) leads
the Wisconsin congressional delegation in
accepting Israel Lobby funds. Baldwin is a
reliable vote for the Israeli Lobby, and is
known as more calculating and mealy-mouthed,
than principled and courageous.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) leads the Wisconsin congressional delegation in accepting Israel Lobby funds, rejecting her posturing as a peace-and-justice senator in the tradition of the La Follette family of Wisconsin, (Conniff, Wisconsin Examiner).
Baldwin is owned by the Israeli Lobby, though Wisconsin's history of anti-intervention and peace compels her to pay lip service to human rights to stay in office.

Baldwin's office has been the site of several sit-ins since the Genocide began.

Baldwin accepted $714,566 from the Lobby; $221,291 from J Street PAC.

Baldwin accepted endorsement from AIPAC allies, J Street, NORPAC (formerly known as North Jersey PAC), JAC (Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs PAC), and FIPAC, (Friends of Israel Political Action Committee).

Rep. Mark Pocan

Alone among Wisconsin's congressional delegation in refusing the Israeli Lobby's funding and support is Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisconsin).

Pocan represents the Dane County (Madison)-based district that maintains a huge peace movement population, such as Jewish Voice for Peace (Facebook), Veterans for Peace Clarence Kailin Madison Chapter 25., and World Beyond War.

Representative Mark Pocan (WI) is
alone in Wisconsin's congressional
delegation in rejecting all Israeli Lobby
money, as well as refusing endorsements
from all pro-Genocide politcal forces.
Pocan has ramped up his criticism of Israel and AIPAC as the Genocide and sadism have isolated Israel from the civilized world.

This follows work last year when Pocan "spoke on the House Floor about the ongoing war in Gaza after the Israeli military targeted a World Central Kitchen humanitarian aid convoy killing seven, including an American citizen. Pocan highlighted a letter he led, along with 55 of his colleagues, to President Biden and Secretary Blinken ... ," (WisPolitics).

In late July this year, Pocan wrote on X: "There is NO justification for people starving in Gaza. Israel under Netanyahu is enabling the lack of food, even shooting people at food sites. The World will turn against them if they don’t change course. It is immoral."

"Groups like @AIPAC MUST speak out or be exposed."

Except for Wisconsin Democratic Congress members here,  joined by Republicans, few Wisconsin folks disagree.

Still, in the face of the attempted destruction of the Palestinian people, what we do as moral agents and those who represent the American people in Congress seems obscenely inadequate to many.

This Genocide is impossible to hide, no matter how many journalists Israel kills, and how many members of Congress shill for Israel.

This Israeli compulsion to hide the truth of Genocide does reveal that Israel recognizes a world of decent people who will rise up against Israel's evil, no matter how many Tammy Baldwins and Elissa Slotkins shame our nation.

U.S.-Israel Political Maneuvers Go Deep and Dark

Steve Clemons at the Washington Note has a piece observing a new development in the increasingly adversarial U.S.-Israeli relationship: More secrecy.

As AIPAC boasts on its website of its influence on our Congress in imposing "crippling sanctions on Iran," AIPAC's long-held position detailed in a letter "[s]igned by over three-quarters of the entire Congress - 81 senators and 366 House members," Clemons notes "AIPAC itself has sent out this past week a roster of statements from Obama administration officials, that showed that much had been done to move the hard edged differences between the administration [and Israel] out of the public and into private channels."

Considering that our republic is founded on the foundation that the consent of citizens direct our elected representatives, this move towards secrecy (private channels) appears antithetical to democratic notions of citizens deciding the direction of public policy.

We are engaged in a political fight with a political enemy, but this fight ought to be discussed endlessly in the public sphere of our country.

In these pages Jeff Gates writes, "[f]orced to face the reality of an enemy within, [Israel], our military leadership signaled Obama that they are prepared to cover his back. The oath of office mandates a defense against all enemies. Yet it also places our defense under civilian control. ..."

Civilian control indeed, American citizen control. Let's reaffirm the alliance between American citizens and our government, a tradition dating back to our first president who warned of the dangers of foreign nations who seek to influence the American people and its government.

Obama Could Be Serious in Pushing Israel to Peace

I'm skeptical but there are indications.

Nathan Guttman's piece in The Forward (AIPAC Confronts A New Reality as Obama’s Agenda Becomes Clear; A Tougher Message Replaces the Uncritical Support of Bush Years):

But (Vice-President) Biden, after sending up his rhetorical warning, used his May 5 keynote speech to the pro-Israel lobby to convey the Obama administration’s insistence on a number of policies directly conflicting with those of the new government in Israel — and some policies held by previous Israeli governments, too.

Other speakers, such as Democratic Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts,
chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, underlined Biden’s points on
the need for Israel to stop expanding settlements in the West Bank and accept
the necessity of a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.
That's pretty much the standard line being pushed by thoughtful writers and bloggers. See also
Jerusalem worried over breakdown of U.S.-Israel cooperation under Obama (Aluf Benn and Barak Ravid).

But then there is this, just out on Haaretz (Barak Ravid):

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a group of Russian-language reporters Thursday that Israel will never withdraw from the Golan Heights.

'Remaining on the Golan will ensure Israel has a strategic advantage in cases of military conflict with Syria,' Netanyahu said during a briefing he gave to the reporters.

His comments were published Friday on several Russian-language Israeli Web sites.
This position renders a settlement freeze besides the point, and signals the militarist Israeli government's determination to play to rightwing Russian immigrants in Israel comprising some 15 percent of Israel's 7,000,000 citizens.

Israel will pursue peace when hell freezes over.

Political Thriller Becomes Comedy

Jane Harman is the divine hypocrite of the new century.

Glenn Greenwald on Jane Harman - Wiretap cheerleader furious: She was wiretapped!:

So if I understand this correctly -- and I'm pretty sure I do -- when the U.S. Government eavesdropped for years on American citizens with no warrants and in violation of the law, that was 'both legal and necessary' as well as 'essential to U.S. national security,' and it was the 'despicable' whistle-blowers (such as Thomas Tamm) who disclosed that crime and the newspapers which reported it who should have been criminally investigated, but not the lawbreaking government officials. But when the U.S. Government legally and with warrants eavesdrops on Jane Harman, that is an outrageous invasion of privacy and a violent assault on her rights as an American citizen, and full-scale investigations must be commenced immediately to get to the bottom of this abuse of power. Behold Jane Harman's overnight transformation from Very Serious Champion of the Lawless Surveillance State to shrill civil liberties extremist.

Update III: Greenwald: So if I understand this correctly -- and I'm pretty sure I do -- when the U.S. Behold Jane Harman's overnight transformation from Very Serious Champion of the Lawless Surveillance State to shrill civil liberties extremist."

Update II: Prosecutors Considering Dropping Espionage Charges Against Former AIPAC Lobbyists

Update: The new neocon think tank Foreign Policy Initiative's launch was attended by Rep Jane Harman who served on a panel on March 31, 2009 and said, "(W)hat Washington does need is thoughtful people coming together to think about the issues. And many people in this new organization are people I have known for many years and interact with regularly."

If Robert Ludlum were alive today, he could not make this story up.

A small religious, fundamentalist state—whose most prominent power centers view its people as being in most-favored spiritual league with a supreme metaphysical force, is the fifth largest nuclear power in the world, and wants to wage war with its neighbor that is run by a rival religious sect a few hundred miles to the east—regularly spies on the United States, its historical ally, and two of the religious state's major lobbyists subsequently get caught by the FBI after receiving classified U.S. documents from a former Pentagon employee and are indicted for espionage.

Now word comes that the current House Chair of the Homeland Security Committee’s Intelligence Subcommittee and former member of House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has been overheard in a National Security Agency's court-approved surveillance of a conversation in which a U.S. citizen (an accused spy) urges the congresswoman to intervene and halt the Justice Dept (DOJ)'s espionage prosecution of the two lobby spies for the small religious state in exchange for the powerful lobby working to get the congresswomen the chairmanship of the House Intelligence committee.

“This conversation doesn’t exist,” said the congresswoman not knowing that she was being bugged by the NSA.

A journalist covering the story writes:

That's not even the most significant part. Back in October, 2006, Time (Magazine) reported that the DOJ and FBI were investigating whether [the Congresswoman] and [the religious state’s main lobby] 'violated the law in a scheme to get [the Congresswoman] reappointed as the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee' and 'the probe also involves whether, in exchange for the help from [the religious state’s main lobby], [the Congresswoman] agreed to help try to persuade the [Republican] Administration to go lighter on the [the religious state’s main lobby] officials caught up in the ongoing investigation.' So that part has been known since 2006.

[The journalist breaking the NSA story] adds today that [the Congresswoman] was captured on an NSA wiretap conspiring with [the religious state’s] agent to apply pressure on DOJ officials to scale back the [prosecution against the religious state’s main lobby]. But the real crux of journalist's scoop is that [the] then-Attorney General ... intervened to kill the criminal investigation into [the Congresswoman] -- even though DOJ lawyers had concluded that she committed crimes -- because top [administration] officials wanted [the Congresswoman's] credibility to be preserved so that she could publicly defend the ... administration's illegal warrantless eavesdropping program.
The religious state's (as well as that of the US Republican administration's] allies include millions of Americans of another complex religious sect who believe that an unavoidable great battle of Armageddon is upon us and will begin in the region and the specific religious state for whom the spies are working, as well as a small but influential group of nihilistic war mongers who seek to wage the same war as the religious state.

Informed observers and activists working for peace note that should the nuclear-powered religious state strike its rival sect, the "reaction to the bombing of ...will be the blocking of [the] Strait [where massive oil-exporting occurs].

[The rival religious state] dominates the whole length of the Strait. They can seal it hermetically with their missiles and artillery, both land based and naval.

If that happens, the price of oil will skyrocket - far beyond the 200 dollars-per-barrel that pessimists dread now. That will cause a chain reaction: a world-wide depression, the collapse of whole industries and a catastrophic rise in unemployment in America, Europe and Japan.

The peace activist wrote that last July when economic times seemed better. The activist assumes rational economic state actors, and could have added that several rival religious sects' governments could fall (including another nuclear-powered state) and a more deadly serious worldwide depression would result if the US-allied religious state struck its rival sect. Today a depression would seem a near certainty.
