The Bush administration has crystallized the anti-intellectual bent of current rightwing thought.

Characteristic of this manner of thinking is the Free Republic. They are irrational whacks, but they are also the most visited political website.
Reacting to the story about an innocent Wisconsin veteran imprisoned for seeking disability benefits courtesy of the politicized VA and DoJ under Bush and Rove, the Free Republic chatroom exploded, but they could not decide in what direction.
You might think a Vietnam-era veteran getting screwed and ultimately imprisoned by the bureaucrats and suits would be enough to bring people of virtually every stripe together. Not a chance. [The Freepers have a link to the site "America Supports You," that ought be amended: if you are a good Bushie.]
Most of the comments from the Free Republic chatroom on the innocent veteran jailed by the DoJ were incoherent or accusing the VA Sec Jim Nicholson (the former RNC Chair) of being a leftist.
Others concluded that since the blogger breaking the story is dedicated to human rights and other "leftist" causes and interests, the jailed man must be guilty. The two comments below instruct:

You get the point; I would just add that Noam Chomsky, exhausted from reinventing the field of linguistics and in a deep sleep, has more intellectual firepower than the entire Free Republic community combined.
C'mon freepers, a veteran is a veteran, and they all deserve respect and healing from our society, no matter the idiocy of the public policy that puts them in harm's way.
