Inane in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md., Nov. 27 — The Israeli and Palestinian leaders committed themselves on Tuesday to negotiate a peace treaty by the end of 2008, setting a deadline for ending a conflict that has endured for six decades.

In the Independent, Rupert Cornwell reports:

Israelis and Palestinians will embark next month on their first serious drive in seven years to reach a comprehensive peace settlement, with the ambitious goal of a deal by the end of 2008 to resolve issues that have defied agreement for six decades. ..."We are off to a strong start," the US President said.

No one ever said George Bush did not have a grim sense of humor.

This farce in Annapolis is taken seriously only in Washington, and there only as a cynical and mean-spirited PR campaign.
