Report: Wisconsin Public Health Water Crisis Abetted by Republicans

Wisconsin Republicans are some sick bastards to abet poisoning children such as the Treml family in Kewaunee County in northeastern Wisconsin.

Seely reports the Treml family moved away from Kewaunee County after their then baby girl was hospitalized following taking a bath in water poisoned by a local industrialized dairy operation or CAFO.

Poisoners such as CAFO owner John Pagel have the political support of Scott Walker and State Rep. Joel Kitchen (R-Sturgeon Bay) who with fellow Republicans blocked groundwater protection legislation proposed last year by State Rep. Eric Genrich (D-Green Bay) and State Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay).

In central Wisconsin, another hot spot for CAFO poisoners, State Rep. Scott Krug (R-Nekoosa) runs political interference for the local poisoners in his district.

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents has announced a major conference on protecting our lifeblood, water.

The announcement is reproduced below:

Talking about laws and policies affecting the Upper Great Lakes is timely. Within the last six months:

• A community outside the Great Lakes Basin applied for a diversion of Lake Michigan water
• A federal court ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to rewrite its ballast water rules for ships in the Great Lakes
• Natural resource managers scrambled to keep regulations apace with fluctuations in Great Lakes fish populations

Recognizing the need for a deeper conversation, experts from the U.S. and Canada are meeting on March 24 in Duluth, Minnesota, at the Upper Great Lakes Law and Policy Symposium. The symposium will zero in on how recent activities might serve as models for tackling Great Lakes transboundary issues like climate, mining, crude oil/energy movement, and water levels. Presenters include Lana Pollack, Chair of U.S. Section of the International Joint Commission; and Peter Johnson, Deputy Director of the Conference of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers.

The University of Minnesota Sea Grant Program, the University of Minnesota Law School and the Sea Grant Law Center are hosting the event.
