Biden Uses Meeting with George Floyd Family to Voice Stance Against Defunding Police

Defund the Police is the clear message of human rights
workers protesting the brutality and killing by police depts.
The message is painted on Martin Luther King, Jr Blvd
in downtown Madison, Wisconsin and was posted online by
the human rights group, Freedom, Inc, (Facebook).

"No, I don't support defunding the police," said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee

Passionate demands ring out nationwide to defund the police.

Joe Biden has an answer for the protesters: No.

This is another betrayal by Biden engorged in his unseemly love affair with police that have so terrorized black and brown people. Police are the faithful inheritors of slave patrols, and people are objects, property, in their pathology celebrated in American culture.

Defunding the police is a set of policy prescriptions that takes resources from abusive cops and instead invests in "education, youth development, health care, mental health services and other areas that could reduce crime," (Elbow, The Capital Times).

In segregated urban areas that are traditional targets of police who view the population with hostility, and as targets for police sadism and harassment, the police should be banned, abolished, is a demand of human rights workers carrying the banner for Mr. Floyd.

Biden's disappointing position will not be met well. From Madison, Wisconsin:

Biden has for decades worked to increase funding for the police, fund more police, increase sentences for drug 'offenses,' while bragging about the number of people for whom his legislation results in long prison sentences, so Biden's position is no surprise.

"No, I don't support defunding the police," the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said in an interview with CBS while in Houston to meet with the family of George Floyd, whose death last month as a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck set off nationwide protests, (CNN).

Trump agrees and makes his opposition to defunding unequivocal.

"Defund the police" is a rallying cry around the country as police have used the protests as an excuse to blind people, beat people, induce head trauma, use tear gag, while jailing and writing 1,000s of bogus citations.

Of course, Biden being Biden, threw in some rhetoric to slunk with this position against defunding.

"I support conditioning federal aid to police based on whether or not they meet certain basic standards of decency and honorableness. And, in fact, are able to demonstrate they can protect the community and everybody in the community," said Biden.

This is the exact position of police administrators nationwide for decades, the same position of police unions and fraternal orders of police.

And it's all hollow rhetoric. Good enough for Joe Biden.

Police harassment, beatings, defamation, character assassination, assault, killing will remain routine.

You can't breathe, Joe Biden does not care.

Enough is enough.

Our pain, our cries, and our need to be seen and heard resonate throughout this entire country.

We demand acknowledgment and accountability for the devaluation and dehumanization of Black life at the hands of the police.

We call for radical, sustainable solutions that affirm the prosperity of Black lives.

George Floyd’s violent death was a breaking point — an all too familiar reminder that, for Black people, law enforcement doesn’t protect or save our lives. They often threaten and take them.

Right now, Minneapolis and cities across our country are on fire, and our people are hurting — the violence against Black bodies felt in the ongoing mass disobedience, all while we grapple with a pandemic that is disproportionately affecting, infecting, and killing us.

We call for an end to the systemic racism that allows this culture of corruption to go unchecked and our lives to be taken.

We call for a national defunding of police. We demand investment in our communities and the resources to ensure Black people not only survive, but thrive. If you’re with us, add your name to the petition right now and help us spread the word.

    1. Voting Green, assuming Joe Biden does not drop out because of his cognitive decline. There is the possibility that Biden and Sanders made a pact to endorse each other, with Biden endorsing Bernie, if and only if Biden does drop out, [speculation]. In any event, I am through with the Democratic Party.
