This Is America

Madison, Wisconsin — Ran into a black woman on Madison's southwest side this week.

Typical scene in Wisconsin, she's black hence worthy of police harassment, arrest, imprisonment, anything.

I eavesdropped on her phone call as she phoned the police asking that she be "left alone" by a local gang, the Madison Police, thoughtless and hateful thugs.

She had heard the police, (lots of time on their hands here, heavy into anti-human and generally bad attitudes championed by Donald Trump), were dropping by her apartment to issue what the woman believed would be a bogus disorderly conduct citation because a racist Madison crossing-guard felt the duty to phone the police on a black woman to predictable consequence.

The crossing-guard didn't like how the woman spoke.

So what does a black woman do when subjected to harassment, threats and racism?

She tried calling the police, repeating her desire to be "left alone." Likely a mistake, but understandable. The idiot on the other end of the line responded by demanding the location from which the woman phoned, the better to send over units to arrest and further injure.

After the phone call I offered some advice to this just another black human obviously scared, traumatized, prevented and victimized. Wonder how it worked out for this kind and thoughtful woman in crisis, but I can offer an educated guess — not well.

Why do police hate this woman? Why would anyone want to harm this woman? If you ask these kinds of questions, you could not be a cop in America.

This week also saw the release, (on Saturday), of a music sensation by the artist, Childish Gambino, (Donald Glover), the video This Is America.

Glover's powerful depiction of violence, and those who ignore it, is the rage of cultural journalism. Watch and listen, see what you think:
