The Navy announced yesterday that the civil rights leader Medgar Evers will be honored today with a Navy supply ship named for Evers.Senator John C. Stennis (Mississippi) on the other hand was a racial segregationist and ardent civil rights foe. And the Navy honored him in 1995 by commissioning the seventh Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier, USS John C. Stennis.
Stennis was a disgrace, Evers a hero.
