Old School

Getting ready this morning, a commercial came on CBS bragging that a shredded-wheat cereal is putting the “No” in “Innovation”.

The message of the spot is that this cereal is keeping it simple, like they used to be, like America used to be.

This sentiment could apply well to resurrecting the Big Three American automakers.

Talking to grease monkeys, the type of guys who keep their friends’ old cars running, I still hear pining for American-built cars that could be fixed with a tool box and few beers.

The hell with all the innovations, automation, chips and GPS that we have now.

Make ‘em like Battlestar Galactica: The old-school way. It’s a sentiment you pick up here and there.

So, can we produce and market one car to people who want them American-made and repairable by the iconic American who likes to work on cars and drink beer?

Couldn’t hurt to try.
