As Bush militarism has become more intimately tied to the American religious right with its traditionally implicit (and often explicit) anti-Semitism, the militaristic and anti-civil liberties policies espoused by both the United States and Israel are coming under increasing attack.
Tony Karon has an interesting piece at Tomdispatch.
For American Jews, Dissent Against Israel Has Become Mainstream
Tony Karon, Tomdispatch.com
The exceedingly narrow range of 'correct opinion on Israel for American Jews isn't holding together like it used to. Is a Jewish glasnost coming to America?
It was not surprising to read about this week's pro-war statement (Declaration Against Iraq Withdrawal) signed by such religious whacks as Lou Sheldon, Gary Bauer, Don Wildmon and Pat Robertson along with Pastor John Hagee (Citizens United for Israel) and Herb Zweibon (Americans for a Safe Israel).
And as more Americans speak out against the dangers of militarism promoted by a bigoted, know-nothing strain of professed Christianity at home, all brands of militarism will suffer politically.
