Do not look for Scott Walker to face the people of Wisconsin in an unscripted town hall meeting any time soon. Walker prefers to hide from the people he is supposed to be representing.
"Walker's plan of taking the money away from the people and giving it all to his campaign donors and corporate masters has forced a drop in demand," writes Capper this morning.This explains, likely, why many so people are fleeing Wisconsin, and Wisconsin has dropped to number 42 in job creation.
The sector of Wisconsin doing well now is the dozens of Scott Walker cronies, whom he turned into political appointees with hefty raises—all rubber-stamped by the Republicans in the legislature. This corrupt action is in the 2011-13 budget.
As for Walker and his rubber-stamp GOP legislature, there are two possible explanations for their going along with Walker's Tea Party regime.
One is "affinity fraud," a la Bernie Madoff and a "similar phenomenon [explaining] the enduring popularity of goldbugs and fiscal doomsayers — including, say, the Wall Street Journal editorial page — despite years of being wrong about everything," as Paul Krugman writes.
A second, more disturbing explanation is Walker and the current band of crazies residing in the Republican Party across the nation might actually believe in what they are doing, notwithstanding their history of lies, distractions and duplicity.
"The most unsettling prospect with Gov. Scott Walker is the notion that he might actually believe what he is saying about the budget he is proposing for Wisconsin," says John Nichols.
But using the budget to hammer political opponents, Wisconsin's working class, and reward cronies is bad economics and at some point Walker will find bad politics.
